The Greatest Gift December 2018

Where has this year gone? It only seems like a few minutes since I sat down to write my Christmas blog for 2017 and yet in the twinkling of an eye, it’s December 2018 and here I am at the keyboard again!

The shops and TV adverts seem to start advertising and selling things for Christmas earlier and earlier, ‘what is the greatest gift you can give your loved one this Christmas?’

It can be really hard to find ’that gift’ can’t it? And what do we do if the gift that we unwrap is somewhat ‘lacking’?

Well in a survey:

40% Sell them on Ebay

22% hide it in a cupboard

20% return it

18% gave it to someone else (making sure it’s not the person who gave it to them)

I believe the greatest gift anyone could receive is Jesus Christ! The Apostle Paul, who was never at a loss for words as one of the best communicators of all time, when thinking of the present he had received, could only say, “I can’t describe Him. All I can do is fall on my knees and thank God for His inexpressible gift.”

Jesus Christ is all the provision you will ever need. Jesus is offering Himself to you as a gift. You’ve done nothing to deserve Him and you certainly could never afford Him. He offers Himself to you because He loves you. Christmas ultimately comes down to a choice. Will you receive Him? Will you accept what He did for you on the Cross, when He died in your place, paying the full penalty for you as He exchanged His life for yours?

To “receive” means to welcome a visitor into your home. It’s what happens when someone knocks at your door and you open the door and invite him or her to come in. To “receive” Christ means to welcome him as an honoured guest and to have him make your heart his home. Revelation 3:2 says ‘Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”

You will never truly enjoy Christmas, and experience all that life is intended to be, until you can look in the father’s face and tell Him that you have Received His Christmas gift to you. The Gift of Christmas is the Gift of Jesus!

Have a Great Christmas and may God Bless you!
