Thirty years ago on 26th October 1985, Lynda and I were married at Ambleside Methodist Church. It had been a terrible summer, weather-wise, but on that day, the sun was out and the week's honeymoon we had in Scotland was the best weather we had all year.
We had two ladies from America prophesy that the Lord would be with us in our marriage and it has proved to be. In 30 years of marriage there have been hard times as well as good, but we have known the Lord close to us all the way.
I was praying for Lynda the other day and I was reminded what one of the ladies had said to me. She quoted from Ephesians 5 verse 25, 'husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.'
It got me to thinking. 'Do I love Lynda as Christ loved the church?' 'Do the husbands at Lakes Christian Centre love their wives as Christ loved the church?'
It's a challenge that is set before each one of us. Jesus loved us so much that He went to the cross to die for us. He cared for us so much that He was prepared to give His life up for us.
Husbands are we prepared to do that? Do you love your wife so much that if it came to it you would be prepared to give your life up for that woman you are married to? Do you love your wife so much that you will do anything to protect her? I hope so.
And also let us not be forgetting all the other women, young and old in our church family. They need our constant prayers and care and protection too.
I believe the Lord is calling our men to rise up as a praying army, to pray for our ladies and children, so that at all times they will be...... sheltered in the shadow of His wing. As we pray I believe the Lord will answer our prayers in a mighty way. So men, when you are having your own personal prayer time, please be praying for your wife and children and all the other ladies and children in the church. The Lord will answer.
Finally, I want to honour Lynda as a wife and mum, for her encouragement, support, love and prayers over these last 30 years. May our Heavenly Father continue to bless you!
